About the Item

A Chinese Porcelain teapot. Qianlong period Fantastic and highly detailed decoration in Grisaille/Encre de Chine Painted with ‘The Valentine Pattern’. Two doves perched on a quiver of arrows in front of an ‘alter of love’ and a bread fruit plant. Although there are variations of the pattern they are all based on an armorial dinner service ordered in 1743 by Lord Anson based on a drawing by Sir Piercy Brett who accompanied him on a journey around the world 1740-1744. The design became popular during the 18th century. See R.Kerr and L E Mengoni Chinese Export Ceramics 2011 p.65 fig84 for a saucer of the same pattern See Christies Interior Sale London 28th November 2017 lot 27 https://www.christies. com/lot/lot-6111628?ldp_breadcrumb=back&intObjectID=6111628&from=salessummary&lid=1 Beautiful piece for collectors.
