Doulton Lambeth Art Nouveau Silver Mounted Sugar Caster
About the Item
A very stylish Doulton Lambeth Art Nouveau silver mounted sugar caster by renowned artist Ethel Beard and dating from around 1903. The tall elegant stoneware sifter stands on a wide skirted round foot with pinched lower body and of tall round shape with a narrow raised rim with an applied silver mount and with a tightly fitting raised bell shaped embossed cover with raised finial. The body of the caster is decorated in relief with stylized floral designs on tall leafy stems and raised on scrolling lower stems with the pattern repeated around the lower body. Hand painted in tones of blue and green and set against a rich dark mauve colored drip glazed ground. The caster has impressed makers marks to the base along with an incised EB artist mark and is numbered 1794. The silver cover and mount bears Birmingham silver assay marks and makers marks with date code for 1903.
Provenance: From the Ann Turner Collection of Doulton Pottery acquired from the UK Art Market.
In good condition with light wear associated with age and use.
