German Bauhaus Attributed Art Pottery Bowl or Plaque

About the Item

An unusual and very stylish German Bauhaus attributed ceramic glazed bowl or plaque made between 1930 and 1950. The bowl is lightly hand crafted in a red terracotta earthenware and stands raised on a narrow round foot with a splayed wide round shallow body. The bowl is decorated in typical abstract Bauhaus style with a central bright red glazed ‘eye’ set between two cross over boomerang shaped designs decorated in black and brass colored metallic glazes with the whole design set against a black speckled chocolate brown glazed ground. The underside of the bowl is decorated in matt black glazes with a small hanging hole applied to the foot rim. The bowl has an indistinct hand incised makers mark to the base. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market. In good condition with light wear associated with age and use.
