About

Goldscheider Vienna Female Oriental figurine wearing costume: Odalisque (called 'Aida')  Designed by Josef Lorenzl (1892-1950) / one of the most important designers having been active for Goldscheider manufactory in period of 1920-1940 / designed circa 1923-1924 Made circa 1925-1930 Model number 5281 / 743 / 5 Hallmarked: Goldscheider WIEN (= VIENNA) stamp mark Made in Austria / Hand-Decorated modeller's sign existing Subject: Stunning Lady figurine of Arab style / Odalisque Called 'aida':  An odalisque was a female slave in an Ottoman noble household. She was an assistant or apprentice to the concubines and wives. Most Odalisques were part of the Imperial Harem (= the household of the Turkish Sultan). This figurine is of highest quality due to the excellent painting of the lady's garments as well as of the figurine's fine appearance: The lady's cape (which is laid over her head falling down over her shoulders) is multicoloured painted. The odalisque is wearing a pair of Arab trousers / the upper part of her body is covered with a bikini-like garment. The lady's features are very handsome: She has a pretty nose, red cheeks and excellently shaped lips. Aida is looking down towards earth. - The figurine is based on black ovoid & tiered socle.
