About the Item

Very rare Art Deco Goldscheider ceramics figurine, circa 1930 The young dancer wears a sleeveless top that is reminiscent of a bathing suit and wide trousers, a sailor hat sits on her short black curly hair. Looking to the right, she takes a step forward with her right leg, keeping her upper body slightly tilted backwards. She casually puts her hands in her pockets. The figure is supported on the left leg by a model of a sailing ship below the presented leg and is based on an oval, stepped, cream-colored base with a black border, signature 'DAKON' on the top in front of the ship. Representation of Maria Solveg, also Maria Matray or Maria Solveg-Matray (1907 - 1993), a German dancer, choreographer and author. In her younger years she performed mainly on Berlin theaters. She also received several film roles and embodied the cheeky-doll-like girl type popular in the 1920s. Designed by STEPHAN DAKON (1904 - 1997), one of the most important designers who worked for the Goldscheider manufactory from 1924 until the mid-fifties.
