'Tricorn' Young Lady in Carnival Costume by Stephan Dakon, Goldscheider

$4,634.12

About

Very rare Art Deco goldscheider ceramics figurine, circa 1930 The young lady is wearing a carnival costume and a tricorn hat. The triangular straps of her bodice are connected at the top by large buttons, with the legs wide apart and the pulling of the trousers below the waistband, the trouser legs of the suit also look like triangles. The figure is painted in black and gray tones, only the eyes and the hair protruding from under the hat are brown. It is based on a triangular, stepped, black base. A photograph of the actress Lizzy Arna (aka Elisabeth Arndt, 1904 - 1964) probably served as a template. From 1925 the actress was frequently used in German silent films. She primarily embodied the type of femme fatale or seductive demi-world lady popular in this film era. Designed by Stephan Dakon (1904 - 1997), one of the most important designers who worked for the Goldscheider manufactory from 1924 until the mid-1950s. Dakon designed this model circa 1927. made circa 1930 Manufactory: Goldscheider Vienna / Austria Material & Technique: Handcrafted ceramics, white earthenware, hand painted, glossy finish Size: Height 32.5 cm / 12.79 in Width 16.5 cm / 6.49 in Depth 11.3 cm / 4.44 in Marks: model number 5658 / 109 / 12 Goldscheider Wien (Vienna) manufactory stamp MADE IN AUSTRIA / HAND-DECORATED painter's and former's signs existing Bibliography: DECHANT / GOLDSCHEIDER, GOLDSCHEIDER: Firmengeschichte und Werkverzeichnis / History of the company and catalogue of works, Stuttgart (Germany), 2007, Page 412, Number 5658 Condition: Excellent.
