Wedgwood Duke University First Edition Plates, Set of 11

About the Item

A set of 11 Duke University plates made by Wedgwood under the auspices of Jones, McDuffee & Stratton in 1937. Extremely rare 1st edition plates from an edition of 300 sets. Each carries the signature of William Preston Few, the first president of the university. Included are: Trinity College - Randolph County, 1873-1892 (discolored spot- back edge); Southgate Building 1921 (hairline); Chapel Tower 1930; School of Medecine 1928; The Library; Kilgo Dormitory 1928; Union and Baldwin 1925; Vista of Chapel 1930 (some heat discoloration of edges); Washington Duke Building 1890-1911; Crowell Dormitory Tower 1928; East Duke Building 1911. This set descended in the Craven family, Braxton Craven was the 1st president of Trinity College and thus the set lacks the Craven Dormitory plate which is still in the family's possession. Measure: 10 5/8" diameter. We have been a major source for the selective buyer for over 90 years.
