Dutch hand painted tile

About the Item

The central decoration on this Dutch tile is a hand painted scene of a large house with three ships in the background, all done in blue on the white tile. The octagonal cartouche is surrounded by a speckled purple ground with stylised carnations as the corner motifs. It is 130 mm (5 inches) square and 9 mm (3/8ths of an inch) thick. There are a few minor chips to the edge. Made in Rotterdam it dates from the first half of the 18th century.
