Marks: Twelve plates bear Worcester's 18th-century crescent mark, in use from 1755 to 1792. Three plates feature the impressed "B" mark, used at Worcester from 1792 to 1803. Dimensions: Seven plates 7.5" diameter, three plates 7.75" diameter, and five plates 8.75" diameter Condition: Excellent, with very slight rubbing to the gilt and four plates with some gilt touched in on the outer rim (see images #5 through 14, including eight close-up photos). Price: $3,300 This remarkable set exemplifies the craftsmanship and artistry of antique English porcelain, making it a timeless addition to any collection. Background of 18th Century Worcester Porcelain: Worcester's First Period lasts from 1751 to 1783. In 1751, Dr John Wall persuaded a group of 13 businessmen to invest in a new factory at Warmstry House, Worcester, England, on the banks of the River Severn. The early wares were soft-paste porcelain with bodies that contained soaprock, commonly called soapstone in most ceramic circles. In 1783, Thomas Flight, the concern's former London sales agent, purchased the factory for £3,000. The Flight family was involved in the management of Worcester Porcelain until 1840.
