Antique Worcester Porcelain Dessert Service Decorated in Gold England C-1820
About the Item
This set of antique Flight Barr Barr Worcester dessert dishes features the elegant "Strawberry" pattern.
The decoration shows golden strawberries on a soft peach background.
The combination of the peach groun and the lavish gilding is fabulous!
The set was hand gilded from a stencil in England during the Regency period around 1820.
It includes a total of 18 pieces, comprising:
12 dessert plates 8.25" diameter
a standing fruit bowl,
a square serving dish,
a pair of oval serving dishes,
and a pair of saucer dishes.
Price: $1,700
All the dishes are marked with an impressed crown over FBB, which indicates that Flight Barr Barr Worcester, the manufacturer, was a purveyor to their Royal Majesties.
The Worcester "Strawberry" pattern was highly sought after in the early 19th century and was considered a great alternative to Chinese porcelain, which was a symbol of status during that period.
Worcester porcelain was whiter, with brighter colors than Chinese porcelain, and more readily available, becoming the height of fashion for the English nobility.
