About the Item

Piero Fornasetti Hot Air Balloon Plates, Mongolfiere Pattern, Set of Six, 1970s. The Set of Piero Fornasetti plates depict different scenes of historical hot air balloons. The pattern is known as the Mongolfiere pattern. "Mongolfiere" in Italian means "hot-air balloon," referencing the invention of the Montgolfier brothers, Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne, who pioneered the first practical hot air balloon in 1783. The plates include- Number 5, "1784, Fire-Balloon of Dyjon Academy with Guitton and Berton on board", Number 6, "1784, Sept. 19th. Robert & Mullin left Tuileries Garden, Try to guide the balloon by some parasols", Number 8, "1797, October 30th. Equestrian ascension of Testu-Brissy at Bellevue, Near Paris", Number 10, "1786, June 17th, In Paris Yestu-Brissy Rices and remains three hours into the tempest", Number 11, " 1951, August 30th Acrobat Thevelin mades some tumblings on the trapezium supported by the balloon 'Eagle'", Number 12, "1804, December 16th. Fire Balloon for Napoleon's Incoronation soared above Rome and finished in the Lake of Bracciano". Dimensions: 10 1/2 inches diameter x 1 1/2 inches high. Mark: Image of hot air balloon with a number on its side and below- Mongolfiere/Fornasetti/ Milano/Made in Italy and to the right the Fornasetti hand and brush.
