About the Item

During the political upheaval of the French Revolution and Reformation periods, many people fled France for other countries, and such is the case with plate decorators from the industries of same through the Sevres and Limoges regions of France, influencing the style and manner of plate decoration in English factories, as well. The plates that were produced by these same Sevres and Limoges decorators are in fact produced in England during this period and of the same quality, look and value as the old Sevres signature plates. Coalport is one such production house from this era, and this is one of the so called 'English Sevres' plates. The plates are Coalport, made for distribution by Daniell, a London retailer in the mid-1800s. The bird painting is by John Randall, and the flower/fruit painting to the center, by William Cook. With the same hand painted work, the typical fine quality, delicacy of painting and thick empasto raised gold adornments and rocailles are in ample evidence here. A superb addition to your collection (or mine!). Some time ago, I had amassed a set of 12 of these old Coalport - Daniell plates in pink, and they were sold at $500 a plate. Oh how I wish I had the entire set back again. It takes a long time to gather that many of these rare and stunning old beauties! But given time, and given our price on this and some others in stock, you might get a nice start on your own set of 12. Don't miss this set of 4, and look for the others we have that compliment it.
