Almeric Walter Henri Bergé Crayfish Bowl Pâte de Verre circa 1915 Signed
The technique of pâte de verre production was already known in ancient Rome and Egypt. Particularly during the Art Nouveau period, it was used in works by famous French glass artists such as Gabriel Argy-Rousseau, Henry Cros, Amalric Walter and Émile Gallé. The production of Pâte de verre is a slow process that requires a great deal of craftsmanship to avoid bubbles, clouding and cracks in the cooling process. The technique allows for precise shapes and accurate color gradations in the workpiece that are not possible with any other glass processing method. In our bowl, a beautiful transition from blue to green has been created using this technique. The so-called vide poche is crowned by a crab. It is signed in the glass mass with "Almeric Walter" and "Henri Bergé".
