Bohemian Moser Art Deco Oroplastic Blue Glass Card Holder, 1920

About the Item

Cute Art Deco signed Moser cobalt blue card holder decorated on two sides with a rare Oroplatic pattern of a seated female warrior with spear and shield in a round cartouche. Signed to the base 'Made in Czechoslovakia Moser Karlsbad' see image 5. Oroplastic glass was first created by Leo Moser (Ludwig's son) circa 1920, a hybrid of neoclassical design and the new Art Deco look, it combined cameo/acid techniques with inlaid gilding. Once it became established many other glass houses copied the technique. To counter this competition Moser bought in a number of great designers (Such as Rudolf Wels) to produce new variant Oroplastic designs.
