Glass Biedermeier Transparent Beaker Church Saint Stephen Vienna Kothgasser 1825


Finest glass beaker / cut-glass of Biedermeier period, with painted view of Cathedral Saint Stephen In Vienna: Picture created by Anton Kothgasser (1769-1851) made circa 1825  Specifications: Stunningly manufactured golden shaded as well as transparent glass beaker with finest multicolored painting of translucent technique: View of Late Romanesque, Gothic Cathedral Saint Stephen in Vienna, built as from 1137 / it is collegiate church since the year 1365 (residence of a cathedral chapter) as well as residence of bishop since 1469 / the church became cathedral in 1479. The beaker is of slight tapering type / it has wide round mouth. The inner wall as well as backside of outer wall are golden painted. The beaker's front side shows the stunning picture depicting Viennese Cathedral with golden painted inscription below: 'La cathédrale de St. Etienne à Vienne'. Edge of round foot is decorated with cut ornaments of score type whereas bottom's reverse side is ornamented with stunningly cut star pattern. The beaker's painter is Anton Kothgasser (1769-1851), a famous Viennese glass painter, having specialized in paintings of porcelain items first: Kothgasser had studied at Viennese Academy of Fine Arts, taught by Friedrich Füger, and moved to Viennese Porcelain Manufactory then where he was active as painter until the year 1840. Kothgasser decorated the glass items with minutely detailed landscapes, portraits, flowers, animals, allegories and buildings. His best known works are so-said panoramic beakers with views of the town Vienna.
