Haida Fine Moulded Glass Spider Web Vase with Vivid Red Foot c1930

About the Item

Fabulous red footed clear banded vase with a frieze of fine detail spider webs and flowers. This is typical of work from the Haida region of Czechoslovakia -possibly by either Carl Metzler or Carl Hosch. The Vase is marked 'TCHECO SLOVAQUIE' on the underside of the foot this mark was used only in the 1920s and 1930s for pieces exported exclusively to France (Being the French for Czechoslovakia) -See the last image The blanks for these types of vases were usually made in the big glass houses such as Harrach and Riedel and then finished in small workshops around the Haida region. Haida had one of the only glass schools where such techniques were taught -and students tended to stay close after graduation -as they then had access to blanks and other important materials and equipment
