Loetz Art Nouveau Vase Lemon-Yellow Cytisus with Silver Mount, Austria-Hungary

About

Extraordinary piece of Bohemian Art Nouveau glass art: In the form of a blown, baluster-shaped body that flares upwards and has a straight, wide neck, silver mounts attached to the neck of the vase with strip-shaped openings on the front, flat, wing-like handles that extend widely at the sides and are decorated with openings in the form of superimposed circles. Shape: Production number / pattern not preserved Decor: Lemon-Yellow Cytisus Colorless glass, underlaid with lemon-yellow opal, wound with metallic blue, wavy, veined stripes, and silver spots with a pearly sheen scattered over the surface. Model-blown and shaped, reduced and iridescent, with a spherical polished pontil. Vases with a Cytisus decor (laburnum) are all representatives of the most creative epoch of the Lötz glassworks. This colorful, effective and interesting rhythmic decor - which is also close to contemporary Viennese painting (e.g. Klimt's Beethoven cycle from 1902) - was used almost exclusively on vessels with lively wavy contours, which are also characterized by dynamic curves in the handles and attachments that reach out into the space. Manufactured by Loetz Widow / Klostermühle / Bohemia Dating of manufacture: around 1904 Size: Height: 18.5 cm / 7.28 in Width: 13.0 cm / 5.11 in Depth: 7.0 cm / 2.75 in Condition: excellent - silver not hallmarked.
