Rene Lalique Mouettes Plate Exclusively Made for King George VI with Press Photo

About the Item

Amazing Rene Lalique presentation plate - Mouettes - Commissioned by The City of Paris to be given to King George VI and his wife Queen Elizabeth (later known as the Queen Mother) in 1938 on the occasion of their first and only state visit to Paris. The only examples of this plate still reside in Clarence House -The last home of the Queen Mother -and a tiny number of display examples that were sent to the Rene Lalique shops (to show off and commemorate the presentation) -None were ever available for sale -this example came from The Breves Gallery in London -It was originally part of a window display in 1938 and was acquired from the grandson of an employee (who was given it - as they were not allowed to sell it). In addition there is an original Rene Lalique press release photograph of the presentation showing The King and Queen with various unknown French and English dignitaries (The man bowing may be President Lebrun of France) -The super rare original photograph is stamped on the reverse 'Reproduction Interdite' (Reproduction forbidden) -The plate is listed in the Lalique book by Marcilhac Page 698 (black edition) -under 'pieces unclassified' A. Signed R Lalique see 2nd picture. This is almost certainly the rarest Rene Lalique plate and one of the rarest pieces made by him -with only one other example has ever come on the market (probably from the Paris Shop). The plate appears to have been unused and the photograph although handled over 80 years is in excellent condition.

Rare Rene Lalique clear glass Perles Wall panel 1930 -signed
By René Lalique
Located in Worcester Park, GB
Rare Rene Lalique clear glass square Perles Wall panel 1930. As well as the usual Vases, Bowls, tableware, car mascots etc Rene Lalique made Architectural Installations -some of the more famous of these went into Churches, but he designed a wide range of glass panels for rooms, walls, tables etc. These were not for sale as individual items and could only be acquired as part of an installation. This is a Documented Carres Perles pattern 'Cloison' or wall panel. The fact that it is an unused single panel and signed (they were usually not signed) suggests this was a salesman's sample. It is Documented in the Lalique book...
