About the Item

A stunning and rare opal Seal figurine sitting on a stylised rock platform. This was designed in 1935 by Etienne Frankhauser for J A Jobling -In the late 1920s and 1930 the famous English Glass house of J A Jobling tried their hand at copying the Rene Lalique style of glass making and employed Frankhauser (Rene Lalique's Mould maker) to design a number of pieces for them, the rarest and most impressive of which were a series of medium small animal paperweights usually in clear and 'opalique' -This example the seal is one of the very rarest and is signed 'Jobling's Opalique' on the base. The design was registered in the UK Reg No 799631 in 1935 and it was probably only made until 1939. The last picture shows the Seal with other Jobling Paperweights -also available separately in our other 1stdibs listings
