Sunderland Bridge Rummer with Lemon Squeezer Foot, c1800 Additional information: Period : George III Origin : England Colour : Clear, good grey tone Bowl : Cup shaped over a bladed collar knop; engraved with an image of a two-masted brig sailing under the bridge to one side, opposite a stalk of barley and an initial cursive D to the other Stem : abbreviated plain stem Foot : High-kick lemon squeezer on a square base Pontil : n/a Glass Type : lead Size : H 12.9 cm Diameter bowl : 9.3 cm Diameter foot: 6.0 x 6.0 cm Condition : Excellent; some very minor nibbles to the base as to be expected, with a shallow 4mm flaked chip to the underside of one corner; no cracks or significant scratches; a small bruise to the inside of the bowl Restoration : none

    This is a very good English "RUMMER" drinking glass, which were originally drinking glasses used in English taverns in the late 18th and early 19th century. The glass is handblown and made from lead glass, having a soft greyish colour. It has an ovoid bowl, well engraved with a band of swags and tails on a short wrythen stem, sitting on a conical foot, having a snapped off pontil below.
