About the Item

Elegant complete cave à liqueur, in Boulle style marquetry with brass filets and beautiful an important brass ornamentation in its faced et on the top cover. Mahogany veneered, inside. Crystal, glasses engraved with vine leaves motif. The interior includes a complete service with four Carafes and 16 glasses (five of them very similar to the others, with a light different motif) rare, unique serviteur with the four carafes in front of it. Lock signed by "Marechal 24 rue de Gravilliers Paris" Epoque Napoleon III circa 1870 Entirely restored by our special professionals. About Boule: André-Charles Boulle (1642-1732) master before 1666, was the French cabinetmaker who is generally considered to be the preeminent artist in the field of marquetry, even "the most remarkable of all French cabinetmakers Christened by his contemporaries as "the most skillful artisan in Paris," André-Charles Boulle's name is synonymous with the practice of veneering furniture with marquetry of tortoiseshell, pewter, and brass. Although he did not invent the technique, Boulle was its greatest practitioner and lent his name to its common name: Boulle work. Boulle also specialized in floral marquetry in both stained and naturally colored wood. Many of his designs are illustrated in a book of engravings published around 1720. Before 1666 Boule was awarded the title of master cabinetmaker; in 1672 the king granted him the royal privilege of lodging in the Palais du Louvre. In the same year, he achieved the title of cabinetmaker and sculptor to Louis XIV, king of France. This new title allowed him to produce furniture as well as works in gilt bronze such as chandeliers, wall lights, and mounts. Although strict guild rules usually prevented craftsmen from practicing two professions simultaneously, Boulle's favored position allowed him protected status and exempted him from these statutes. This position allowed Boulle to produce furniture as well as works in gilt bronze, such as chandeliers, wall lights, and mounts for furniture. Boule specialty was wood pictorial marquetry, and he was so skilled he became very known. The furniture by André-Charles Boulle was never signed by its creator. Marquetry is the art of creating intricate pictures and elaborate designs on furniture by skillfully cutting and fitting together thin pieces of domestic and exotic woods, Horn, ivory, metal, shell, and other precious materials. While this highly specialized art has roots in ancient times, it was brought to a high level of refinement in the 17th and 18th centuries in France.
