About the Item

A rare and unusual pair of George III Peppers made in London in 1805 by John Emes. Pairs of Pepper Casters of any size are extremely rare from the Georgian period and these are of a larger size than normally seen, which is much better for usage. Each Caster stands on a circular pedestal foot decorated with reeding. The vase shaped main body rises to a shaped pull-off cover, decorated with reeding and pierced with entwined bands of roundels. The front of each piece is engraved with a contemporary Regimental Crest. The Peppers are in excellent condition and are fully marked in the foot and with the date letter and sterling mark in the cover. John Emes was a superior maker in terms of quality and production, often of innovative design, as seen with these pieces. Additional information: Height: 4.25 inches, 10.63 cm. Diameter, at the widest point: 2.25 inches, 5.63 cm.
