About the Item

Large 19th century Art Nouveau stoneware cider pitcher with a detailed satyr, faun or devil hanging on a tree branche handle. Unfortunately I know nothing about the maker's mark stamped in the bottom, in which you can see the initials FS. What I do know is that I liked this high tankard straightaway when I spotted this on an antiques fair here in the Netherlands because of its pretty colours, elegant high shape and because of the way the Satyr is made and hangs on a tree branche which forms a handle.

This satyr cup is a pen wipe, from back in the days when people used a fountain or a crown pen and ink and you needed your pen brushed...

The Art Nouveau sculptural pitcher by sculptor Charles Théodore Perron (1862-1934) is a testament to the elegance of Art Nouveau craftsmanship.
