Art Nouveau Daum Claret with Gorham Sterling Mounts

About the Item

Extraordinary Art Nouveau sterling silver mounted claret jug by Gorham, circa 1900. The glass body, imported from France, is signed Daum, Nancy. It has been tinted emerald green and cameo carved to reveal 3 D flowering irises which are subsequently decorated in gold leaf. The motif is repeated on the silver neck mount with blooming buds in relief on the sides. There is a figural floral bud finial and the interior of the spout is gold washed. One side of the claret is more highly decorated as often was the case, for display purposes. A rare find, circa 1900. Extraordinary workmanship and quality. The finest in Art Nouveau from two of the periods' finest factories, Gorham USA and Daum, France. 12" x 7" at handle, widest at the body 5". Gorham Marks indicate late 19th century, shell hallmark x 1896, along neck. Factory identification serial numbers are visible on underside of handle. Amazing condition.
