Georg Jensen HK Small Pitcher in Stainless Steel Mirror Finish by Henning Koppel

About the Item

Launched in 2008 to coincide with master designer Henning Koppel’s 90th birthday, Masterpieces revisits Georg Jensen’s original silver hollowware. Of all the designers to work with Georg Jensen through the years, Henning Koppel was among the most highly regarded. His designs played an important role in influencing the signature look of Georg Jensen, particularly in the second half of the 20th century. The designer had trained as a sculptor before turning his attention to jewellery, hollowware and cutlery. Georg Jensen began as a silversmith; this collection is a modern interpretation of the legacy of excellent craftsmanship that dates from the very beginning. The pitcher is one of his most famous pieces and was first formed in 1952. It is spare but sensuous, with an elegantly extended handle and exaggerated lip. Containing 1,2 L, the pitcher makes it possible for everyone to use the elegant shape to serve water, or as a vase or beautiful wine carafe.

  • Georg Jensen Koppel Crystal Carafe with Silver Wire by Henning Koppel
    By Henning Koppel, Georg Jensen
    Located in New York, NY
The Koppel crystal carafe is decorated with a flat pure silver thread. The silver thread which 'extends' the 'neck' is inspired by the African tradition of giving a girl a new ring to put around her neck each year. Crystal glass has fascinated cultures throughout the world for thousands of years due to its ability to capture and reflect light. It is most commonly used for drinking glasses, decanters, ornaments and jewelry. The crystal glass has been chosen due to its allure and transparency, making a beautiful contrast to the distinctive fine silver wrapping. Henning Koppel showed an early talent for art, leading him to train in both drawing and aquarelle early on. He continued studies in sculpture at the Royal Danish Academy and later in Paris. His superb drafting skills, developed as a child, helped him in to produce outstanding product renderings of his designs. Product care: Avoid letting any wine remain in the crystal glass carafe and glasses...
