About the Item
A very large and impressive German attributed pottery jug or pitcher decorated with a large crest and signed to the base dating from the 20th century. The stoneware jug stands raised on a wide round skirted foot with an unglazed base with a large round bulbous shaped body and with a short funnel shaped wide opening with a small shaped pouring spout. A thick loop handle is applied to the side. The jug is decorated with a large oval relief molded crest applied to the body below the spout and has a traditional brown salt glazed finish and is set against a blue and grey streak glazed finish to the body with lighter glazes applied to the top rim and light grey glazes applied to the handle. The jug has initials LB incised to the base along with number 85 and also bears a signature which we have been unable to decipher. A stunning and well made piece possibly originating from the Bauhaus period.
