Studio Pottery Exceptional Salt Glazed Handled Flagon

About the Item

An exceptional and stunning British salt glazed studio pottery flagon decorated in blue streaked glazes dating from the 20th century. This hand thrown stoneware flagon is of tall bulbous shape standing on a flat unglazed base and lower body with a narrow raised and shaped neck with a flared flat edged opening and with a strap handle which wraps around the neck and extends from the upper body. The flagon has a small funnel shaped pouring spout to one side. The body is decorated in blue matt glazes over the natural stone ground of the body with elements of the stoneware showing through and has streaked darker blue glazes run down the body from the top edge with similar patterning to all elements of the flagon. The glazes have heaped around the lower edge of the flagon. This exceptionally fine example is not marked and is a beautiful display piece. Provenance: from the private collection of a UK-based gentleman. In good presentable condition with a small underglaze firing crack to top of the handle and with a tiny glaze blow to the edge of the handle.
