19th C Derby Pottery Blue and White Factory Sample Pattern Plate

About the Item

A very rare and unusual factory blue and white transfer pattern sample plate, for the Derby Pottery, (later the Royal Crown Derby pottery), transfer pattern dating to late 19th century, although the plate itself is more likely an earlier one that was made and then stored, the DERBY mark is for the King Street Works and was in use 1849-1861. The pattern shown is 'Pembroke'. These were used by the factories and their sales people who would visit potential clients who could then be shown the pattern types that would be used on a particular piece from a dining set, long before catalogues and colour images were available these sample plates would be used as a sales aid, and not many survive intact. Length 43cm x Width 37cm x Depth 4cm.
