About the Item

18th Century Sèvres style blue ground and gilt metal mounted Seaux a bouteille, the blue ground body with two opposing painted oval panels within a gilt lattice work and dot pattern surround, one panel painted in colours with a young lady wearing a red and yellow dress and a bonnet with three ostrich feather plumes and holding a pole with a flag, the other panel in grisaille with a small naked boy standing holding a shield and sword , the whole on a plain gilt metal circular foot rim. Base with blue Sevres mark for 1767 and decorators mark S ( Pierre Antoine Meraud). Note, the porcelain blank is likely to have originated from Sevres, however the decoration would have been carried out later, circa 1830's, either in France or possibly in the UK. The attributed decorator (Pierre Antoine Meraud) was more widely known for flower decoration and not portrait's, so his decoration is likely to have been replaced with the more fashionable decoration of the later period.
