This finely painted porcelain cup and cover commemorating the Battle of Waterloo is a masterful example of 19th-century French historicist ceramic art, signed in the enamel at lower right within the grassy terrain “Desprez.” The piece is crafted in the style of Sèvres porcelain and bears the underside inscription “Waterloo / M. et E. / de Sèvres,” indicating a private commission or commemorative piece aligned with the Sèvres tradition but likely executed outside the official royal manufactory. The body is of baluster form with an elegantly flared lip and rests on a waisted pedestal base adorned with neoclassical motifs in gilt and lapis enamels.
