Art Deco Dresden Ambrosius Lamm Dinner Set Service for Eight

About the Item

Elegant Art Deco dinner service for eight from the highly prized Dresden Ambrosius Lamm Studio. This large set displays sophisticated simplicity with tastefully restrained adornment. A ground color of light cream is surrounded by a rim of pale lilac, divided by the thinnest band of gold, and rimmed in gold with a single strip of raised gilt beading. A single decorative monogram graces the head of each plate. Set for eight, each setting contains: Dinner plate, salad plate, dessert plate, bread plate, butter plate, soup bowl, double handle cup and saucer, tea cup and saucer, coffee cup and saucer, ramekin, salad bowl. Total 88 pieces. Serving pieces include two covered round tureens, one large serving bowl, three oval platters, two deep oval dishes, two round platters, four small plates. Total 14 pieces. Very good antique condition, minor gilt wear of some saucers and platters, one small rim chip on one demitasse saucer, small chip and hairline on larger tureen - all commensurate with age and use . Germany, circa 1925. Sizes: Dinner plate 10 inch, salad plate 8.5 inch, dessert plate 7.5 inch, bread plate 6 inch, bouillon plate 5 inch, coffee saucer 5.7 inch, demitasse saucer 4.5 inch Ambrosius Lamm began decorating porcelain in 1887 in Dresden Germany. He is renowned as one of the most important porcelain painters of his time. His work was among the most sought after and to this day it can be found in many world class porcelain collections. Extremely discerning, he only worked with the highest quality porcelain blanks from well-respected makers, such as Meissen, Rosenthal, KPM and Hutschenreuther. Lamm’s exceptionally detailed figures, lustre glazes and impasto work (raised gilt paste decorations) are painted in the style of Vienna, Meissen and Copenhagen.
