Chaffers bowl Casual Fisherman pattern

About the Item

This porcelain bowl is by Richard Chaffers of Liverpool and is decorated with the hand painted blue and white "Casual Fisherman" pattern. The pattern is shown in plates 5.135 and 5.141 of Maurice Hillis' Liverpool Porcelain 1756-1804. Probably a slop or waste bowl it also features an unusual serrated rim. The bowl stands 70 mm (2.75 inches) high and has a diameter of 210 mm (8.25 inches). Sadly it has a short 20 mm (.75 of an inch) hairline crack that runs down from the rim. It would date from the period 1756-60.
