This outstanding hand painted 19th century French ceramic charger was made by Hautin Boulenger & Cie at Creil & Montereau. The highly detailed Aesthetic Movement charger features polychrome decoration depicting a Japanese quail perched in a flowering cherry tree bearing vivid green foliage. The bird's gaze is fixed on a colorful butterfly with intricately patterned wings which is located off to one side. The image is set on a gilt ground which bears a series of repeating raised gilt motifs. The charger's shoulder is finished in cobalt blue with stylized gilt hearts separated by light blue floral and foliate elements. A charming vase with wonderful, naturalistic patterning and the unusual inclusion of four robust handles, the "Cabbage Leaf" glazed pottery vase by Louis Comfort Tiffany is a wonderful collector's piece. Executed primarily in a buttery yellow with emerald green accents, the vase mimics the appearance of an unfolding kohlrabi cabbage bloom. The tapering handles are bone-white in color and stout in form, a lovely visual counterpoint to the delicacy of the cabbage leaves. This is a good quality porcelain coffee can that we attribute to Spode of Staffordshire, England, made during the very early 19th century, George 111rd period, circa 1810. The coffee can is nominally parallel, with a loop handle having one lower kink, characteristic of the Spode handle. It has a fairly deep foot recess with obtuse corners and is unmarked to the base. The pattern is one of Spode's transfer printed floral leaf designs in a burnt orange colour around the upper border, all between gold gilt rings with a further gold gilt ring just above the base and hand gilding to the outer handle.
