A Deep plate Imari Chinese Porcelain
About the Item
Deep plate, in Chinese porcelain. Imari decoration, Qing dynasty, Qianlong period (1736-1795).
This plate features an elaborate underglaze cobalt blue decoration, complemented by rouge de fer and gold enamels, reflecting the strong aesthetic influence of Japanese Imari porcelain, which was highly valued in the European market.
The central design features a traditional Chinese landscape scene, featuring a fluid composition of natural elements including flowering trees, shrubs, flowers and a pagoda, all painted with precise and expressive brushstrokes. This representation of nature is typical of Chinese porcelains intended for export and symbolizes prosperity and harmony.
Around the central scene, there are two friezes, followed closely by representations of flowers and branches in intense blue, in contrast with the white porcelain background and interspersed with large chrysanthemums and small stylized flowers in red and blue, creating a dynamic and sophisticated visual effect.
The edge of the plate is decorated with floral elements, accompanied by delicate geometric patterns. The gold trim finish gives the piece a refined final touch. This type of porcelain, produced in the legendary kilns of Jingdezhen, was highly prized in Europe, where it was widely imported by merchants of the East India Company to adorn aristocratic collections and be used in luxury tableware.
The quality of the execution, the balance of vibrant tones and the richness of the details make this plate a distinguished example of 18th century Chinese export porcelain.
