An Empire Style Cobalt Blue and Gilt Porcelain Krater Vase, by Hutschenreuther. A cobalt blue and gilt porcelain covered krater vase with a stepped circular pedestal base. The base is decorated with a Greek key frieze in gilt over a cobalt ground, bordered by a gilt beaded edge and a band of scrolling motifs. Above this, the socle is adorned with a laurel wreath pattern and a gilt band separating it from the main body. The lower portion of the body features a gilt acanthus leaf border. The central body is cylindrical with a slightly tapered lower section and is decorated with a continuous gilt figural scene set against a cobalt blue ground. The upper edge is bordered by a gilt Greek key band. Two gilt scroll handles extend from the shoulder to the midsection, terminating in rounded volutes with small applied rosettes at the points of attachment. The interior is glazed white, with red script inscriptions along the inner rim identifying the subjects. The domed cover features a gilt laurel wreath band around the edge and a beaded gilt finial. The underside of the base bears a green printed mark for Hutschenreuther, Dresden Handmalerei. The cover is secured with a metal bolt and nut attachment visible from the interior. A fantastic quality pair of Russian Empire cobalt blue and gold ground swan handle porcelain vases. Each piece is of Amphora form with a gorgeous 24K gold matted, burnished, and shiny front and backside decoration. The front panels consist of a young girl and a young boy, where the young girl is seen holding food on her head with a water pale in her hand walking through the town, while the boy is seen holding a basket of fruit up and walking it back home. Cockatoo's with their glorious crown of plumage think they own the world and this one certainly does. It sits with royal dignity upon its lusciously painted Veridian and Gold glazed column. An exquisite Hutschenreuther-Selb porcelain that is over 100 years old. The stamps on the bottom show the names of Lorenz Hutschentreuther and the Hutschenreuther A.G., Selb company. It is marked on the bottom Department of Art per the description - Abteilung fur Kunst. A #3 is located on the inside lip of the underside base. Hutschenreuther is the name of a German family that established the production of porcelain in northern Bavaria, starting in 1814. The Hutschenreuther porcelain business was founded in 1814 by Carol’s Magnus Hutschenreuther (1794-1845) in Hohenberg an Der Eger, Bavaria, Germany. He had previously worked at the Wallendorf porcelain manufactory in Lichte (Wallendorf.) After his death in 1845, the factory was headed by his widow, Johanna Hutschenreuther, and her two sons. A large part of the factory was destroyed by a firedestroyed by a fire in 1848, but it was rebuilt. From 1860, they produced hand-painted and gilded porcelain products.
