Large Royal Bonn Blue & White Portrait Charger, Signed 'No. 17 van Genden', c.1890 A fine quality late 19th century German charger by Royal Bonn, hand painted in underglaze cobalt blue with a striking portrait of a gentleman identified verso as No. 17 van Genden. The subject, rendered in 17th-century attire with flowing curled hair and lace necktie, is painted with impressive tonal depth and meticulous detailing. Produced by the Franz Anton Mehlem factory in Bonn around 1890, this decorative charger exemplifies the factory's high artistic standards. The large circular form is intended for wall display and makes a strong visual statement. Dimensions: Diameter: 14 in. (36 cm) Depth: 1.5 in. (approx.) Marks: Underglaze blue crowned FM / Royal Bonn / Germany mark Patent triangle stamp "Gesetzlich Geschützt / Reg No 785729 / Patented" Impressed circular factory mark Painted inscription identifying sitter and model number Condition: Very good overall. No chips or cracks. Fine glaze crazing consistent with age. Clean presentation with clear detail. Provenance: Private collection, Germany
