About the Item

Meissen Gorgeous Figurine Group created by Johann Friedrich Eberlein (1695 - 1749) around year 1745: Allegory of Taste - model 1042 It is a finest figurine group designed in baroque period of Meissen Manufactory when Meissen production of porcelain was the most important of Europe during middle of 18th century. Series (for example Five Senses, Four Seasons, The Four Elements) had become very popular in 18th century. Eberlein was active as sculptor on behalf of Meissen manufactory as from the year 1735. The modeller created in collaboration with Johann Joachim Kändler and Johann Gottlieb Ehder the famous Swan Set in period of 1737-1742, consisting of more than 2200 separated parts. Manufactory: Meissen Hallmarked: Blue Meissen Sword Mark a slash below Meissen mark is visible Dating: mid-19th century / made circa 1860 Material: porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted Technique: handmade porcelain Style: Rococo model number 1042 / painter's number 93 Specifications: This superb figurine group shows a lady in antique garments standing on a base being attached to Rocaille feet: The woman supports herself on a pedestal on which a bowl filled with fruits is visible - a lovely ape being situated on pedestal eats an apple, as the lady does ... (= SYMBOL OF TASTE ! ) -- Next to woman's feet there is a naked cherub being busy with eating a pancake broken up with a fork after frying / a ham laid on plate lies on ground, too. -- A Very Special Feature Is The Mouth With Teeth - Being Visible At Edge Of Base: This Mouth Eagerly Eating A Sausage is framed by Rocaille ornaments.
