Meissen Figurines Cherubs Allegory of Arithmetic Model 12 by Acier, circa 1860

About the Item

Meissen Gorgeous cherub figurines group: Allegory of Arithmetic. Designer: Michael Victor Acier (1736-1799). Design made circa 1774 / this model of cherubs' group had been made for decoration of Oranienbaum (Today: Lomonossow) castle, on behalf of Czarina Katharina 2nd (1729-1796) who was as from the year 1762 until her death in 1796 female ruler of Russian Empire, having become famous then for her excellent reign as well as for her love of Fine Arts. Specifications: Three cherubs being busy with calculating / Allegory of Arithmetic. 1) One cherub - having sat down on a book - calculates by dint of its fingers. 2) The second one seizes a pen, passing its hand over its forehead, since the cupid is very strained due to deep thinking, additionally, there are writing things with ink Stand and tray visible at cherub's right side, finally, this cherub balances an opened book on its knees. 3) The third cupid - standing behind its companions - seizes a scroll, looking at the opened book (= this cupid seems to check the written comments and calculations).
