Meissen gorgeous quite rare items: A Pair of Potpourri Lidded Vases with abundantly sculptured decorations as well as with stunning topographical pictures and nicest flower paintings. Manufactory: Meissen Hallmarked: Blue Meissen Sword Mark (underglazed) FIRST QUALITY MODEL NUMBER 2707 former's number 35 Dating: made circa 1870 Material: porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted Technique: handmade porcelain Style: Rococo Style DESIGNER: JOHANN JOACHIM KAENDLER (born in 1706 near Dresden / Germany - died 1775 in Meissen). MODEL 2707 CREATED IN YEAR 1760. Kaendler was chief sculptor at Meissen manufactory as from 1742 until the year 1775. He is the most famous modeller Meissen manufactory ever had and created well-known series such as Shepherd Figurines, Comedian's Children, Gardener Children (with Acier), Paris Town Criers (with Reinicke and Meyer), Gallant Figurines, etc. - Additionally, Kaendler made, too, excellent models of animal figurines as well as of stunningly decorated vases. DETAILED DESCRIPTION: SUBJECT: A PAIR OF LIDDED POTPOURRI VASES, OF FINEST MANUFACTURING QUALITY (= PAINTED TOPOGRAPHICAL PICTURES AS WELL AS FLOWER PAINTINGS AND ABUNDANTLY SCULPTURED DECORATIONS: CHERUBS, FLOWERS AND FRUITS) The vases' form type is that of a reversed pear to which handles encrusted with flowers' blossoms are attached. The lids are of very interesting appearance, too - these ones abundantly decorated with flowers' blossoms. The vases are made in following manner: * Form type: REVERSED PEAR * TOPOGRAPHICAL PAINTINGS as well as FLOWER PAINTINGS of highest quality: -- VASE 1 Frontside: View of Dresden influenced by famous Canaletto's (= Bernardo Bellotto 1722 - 1780) canvas of year 1748: The picture on Meissen Vase, too, shows the River Elbe with Augustus Bridge, the Catholic Court Church and the cupola of Protestant Frauenkirche. - Further there are figurines depicted in picture's foreground - these are fishermen with their boats and walking people accompanied by their dogs. / Backside: Excellently painted picture with various flowers such as rose flower, poppy, snowflakes, blue gentians etc. -- VASE 2 Frontside: View of a castle situated at River Elbe as well as at vineyard (most probably it is the area of Radebeul - Saxon Wine Route) / Backside: Excellently painted picture with various flowers such as dog rose, poppy, mallows etc. * ABUNDANTLY SCULPTURED DECORATIONS EXISTING: - The pictures are framed with garlands consisting of various fruits and large flowers' blossoms of stunning appearance. - Sculptured figurines - each of the vases is decorated with two cherubs - are attached to vases' area below: A winged cherub seems to float in air whereas the second one - a boyish cherub - has taken place on base. - Finally, each of the vases' lid is topped up by a gorgeous egg-shaped sculptured flower arrangement.
