Pair of Chinese Porcelain Saucers

About the Item

This pair of porcelain serving bowls features an intricate and elegant design characteristic of traditional Chinese blue and white ceramics. The exclusive use of cobalt blue on a white background is a characteristic of Chinese export porcelain, widely appreciated in Europe and the Islamic world. The richness of detail and precision of the painting indicate a high level of craftsmanship. The decoration of these cups is structured symmetrically, with petal-shaped divisions around the center. Each of these sections contains a delicately painted illustration depicting natural landscapes, flowers and botanical elements. Some of these scenes include mountains and rivers, evoking the traditional style of Chinese landscape paintings (shanshui), which symbolize balance and harmony with nature. Other petals feature flowering branches and fruit, reinforcing auspicious themes of fertility, prosperity and longevity.
