Pair Worcester Armorial Dishes with Eagles

A Flight Barr & Barr Worcester Regency period deep dish the center decorated with a crest showing an eagle about to fly. The border decorated in peach and scrolling vines in lavish gilt. The reverse of each dish marked: Flight Barr & Barr Proprietors of the Royal Porcelain Works Worcester Established 1751. The crest is that of the Family of Agnew. It may be blazoned as follows: Crest: An eagle rising and reguardant proper. The Family of Agnew hailed from the County of Wigtownshire in the South West of Scotland. The Agnews are reputed to be of Norman origin, and to come from Agneaux near St. Lo^ in France. Herbert d'Agneaux, was recorded as living there in 1082, and had an eldest son Herbert who acquired lands at Redenhall in the County of Norfolk after the Norman Conquest of England. His son Corbin inherited the family's English lands, and a descendant of his is said to have taken part in the 12th Century Norman Conquest of Ireland. The Agnews may have arrived in Scotland from Ulster Around the year 1200 when William des Aigneus witnessed a charter in Liddesdale in the County of Dumfriesshire. A continuous descent is recorded from Andrew Agnew in the 15th Century. The Agnews of Lochnaw were created Baronets of Nova Scotia in 1629. We have two pairs of deep dishes in this pattern. We also have in the shop a group of porcelains in this pattern including: A cake plate in this pattern (see image #7). The cake plate measures 10.75" diameter 1.5" tall, price: $1,200. A pair of oval dishes (without crest) 12" x 9" price: $900 for the pair. A pair of oval dishes (without crest) 10" x 7.75" price for the pair $750. A set of six dessert dishes (without crest), 7" diameter, price for the set $1200. We will gladly send images of these items on request.
