Paris Porcelain Teacup and Saucer Depicting Empress Josephine

About the Item

An exquisite teacup and saucer in Sèvres style Old Paris Porcelain, depicting the Empress Josephine in ornate dress and wearing her crown. Dating from the early 19th century First Empire period, this fabulous imperial portrait set, with its canary yellow and intricate gilt decoration, bears the crowned 'N' stamp (for Napoleon) on its base. Elegant in design, with an ornate and gilded high handle, the cup features stunning scrolled floral gilt work in concentric bands, with brightly coloured blossoms in shades of pink and blue. This theme is echoed on the saucer. Both are in excellent vintage condition, with only very minor touches of wear to the gilding.
