About the Item

Piero Fornasetti Fleming Joffe Porcelain Recipe Plate, Vero-Pig Piccadilly, With Original "Hide" Box, 1960s. This rare Piero Fornasetti porcelain plate is from a series of fourteen made for the Fleming Joffe company in New York City. The plate originally was in this square box with an insert that reads- "We are happy to send you a New Year's present. These plates have been created especially for us by Piero Fornasetti in Milano. Each year you will receive more until the end of the series. We wish you and your family a very happy New Year. Fleming Joffe Ltd". Diameter: 10 1/4 inches The Fleming Joffe company was a small leather goods company in New York. Fornasetti was not the only famous artist this company worked with. Andy Warhol produced ads and copy for them as well as decorating their show booths and showroom. They also commissioned Ogden Nash to pair his bouncy text with Warhol's drawings. Reference: Fornasetti: The Complete Universe, edited by Barnaba Fornasetti, page 614, #163 for a color illustration of one of a set of twelve promotional plates made for the Fleming & Joffe company in the early 1970s. Fornasetti writes, Each of the twelve subjects in this series presents a decidedly improbable recipe. There were actually fourteen different designs made to be given away over seven years at New Year to clients of the company two at a time. (Ref: NY9100-nmr).
