About the Item

Set of antique porcelain cups and saucers feature delicate monochromatic motifs of green clover leaves and stems with gold trim on the rims and gold decor on the ornate handles. Semi-translucent bone china blanks are decorated with textured flowing garland designs, reminiscent of Limoges forms of that time. The cups and saucers are marked with blue underglaze "anchor PP" mark, that Porsgrund was using in 1887 - 1911 (it is the first mark of the factory); most of the pieces are also marked with decorator's initials, handwritten in red, overglaze. The set is in very good antique condition. Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik (Porsgrund Porcelain factory) was established in 1885 by Johan Jeremiassen, a shipowner and vice-mayor of Porsgrunn, and Carl Maria Bauer, an entrepreneur from Germany; the first porcelain firing was carried out in 1887. The factory co-operated with well-known Norwegian artists, such as Tias Eckhoff, Nora Gulbrandsen, Konrad Galaaen, Ferdinand Finne, Theodor Kittelsen, Frans Widerberg and Odd Nerdrum. Porsgrunds is the only factory in Norway that still produces porcelain; it is the main producer of porcelain for the Norwegian royal family. Rare, hard to find set of 4 tea or coffee settings will make a great gift to a collector or a design enthusiast, can be used casually or on a fully set table for the special occasion, and will make a perfect addition to a wide range of tablescapes, from Traditional to Victorian, Transitional, Hollywood Regency, Glam, or Collected.
