Qing Chinese Porcelain Blue & White Lidded Jar w/ Shuang-xi or Double Happiness

About the Item

A handsome Chinese porcelain lidded-urn or jar with baluster-form, and hand painted cobalt blue decoration of "shuang-xi" or "double happiness" symbol representing happiness in marriage, amid continuous scrolling vines interspersed with poppy flowers, a symbol expressing a deep and passionate love between two people. The neck is decorated with small swags of flowers and the shoulder with geometric key design. The lid is in the form of a cupola and is decorated in the same fashion as the urn, with four shuang-xi, geometric key design and a painted rosette on the knob, China, circa 1900.
