About the Item
This is a superb tureen, both highly decorative and fully functional. It has the cover, of course, but also the shaped oval stand. For a collector of tureens or the serious entertainer of dinner guests this would be a splendid addition.
In addition to the under glazed 3 waves Royal Copenhagen marking, (representing the 3 waterways of Denmark) there is an embossed HH. We have not been able to identify this embossed HH.
(Frantz Heinrich Müller, founder of Royal Copenhagen (then the Royal Porcelain Factory), was an exception. He imported a stylized chrysanthemum motif from China to Denmark where it was developed and refined into the ultramarine pattern we know today on the fluted porcelain from Royal Copenhagen. A Chinese influence Pattern no. 1, Blue Fluted Plain, was the first pattern to adorn the porcelain of Royal Copenhagen, then named The Royal Porcelain Factory, in 1775. At that time, porcelain production across Europe found inspiration from China, the birthplace of porcelain; its exports represented wealth and refined taste, and porcelain had become a valuable commodity. And so, with inspiration from Chinese patterns, the Blue Fluted Plain design came to life and was to be labeled as Pattern no. 1. To this day, every piece of Blue Fluted Plain is marked with a ‘1’. Royal Copenhagen
Producers of the finest in Danish porcelain, Royal Copenhagen is a company steeped in tradition. Its celebrated blue-and-white china patterns as well as its famed hallmark depicting the royal crown and three waves — symbolizing the monarch who founded the company and the three major waterways of Denmark — are emblems of master craftsmanship.
Royal Copenhagen was founded in 1775 by Queen Juliane Marie. Years earlier, after the death of her husband, King Frederick V, Juliane’s stepson ascended the throne. Shortly into his reign, he went insane, and the Queen became the head of Denmark and its small empire. She sought to improve Denmark’s economy and founded factories around the country to promote domestic growth and international trade. Royal Copenhagen was one of the first of these. Royal Copenhagen first made dinnerware and vases with blue-and-white motifs inspired by Chinese porcelain, then the rage in aristocratic Europe. Many of these designs are still made today.
Apart from its classic patterns, Royal Copenhagen has adapted to the changing styles of time and appeals to many different tastes. Their prolific body of work includes Rococo-style porcelain statues that incorporate stylistic floral patterns in an Art Nouveau style, as well as modern vases by such noted 20th century Danish ceramists as Axel Salto. Whether used for special occasions or displayed as part of a design collection, Royal Copenhagen pieces represent a legacy of the highest quality.

Large Blue and White Porcelain Soup Tureen French 18th Century

Decorated with an elegant design of delicate blue cornflower sprigs, this soup tureen was made by Arras Porcelain in Arras, France, in the late 18th century.
The cornflower sprigs, handles, and border edging are decorated with beautiful deep twilight blue enamel.
The makers of Arras Porcelain specialized in porcelain painted in this entrancing blue called "Bleu d'Arras."
The color of the porcelain body is creamy white.
The combination of the creamy white ground and the blue decoration is splendid.
Natural forms like the tree branch handle and the blue cornflower decorations were the height of French fashion in the last quarter of the 18th century.
Made at the Arras porcelain factory of the Delemers family circa 1780, the tureen and its stand are marked in underglaze blue.
