About the Item
A very rare set of 12 hand painted demitasse coffee cups and saucers from the famous "Opera Set" made by studio of Ambrosius Lamm in Dresden.
One of the finest porcelain ever made, the set was given a name "Opera Set" because every piece is decorated with a scene from Richard Wagner's opera.
These amazing cups are hand painted as a 360 degree panorama with scenes from operas Siegfried, Bruenhilde, Tristan and Isolde, Gottfried and the Flying Dutchman. Parsifal, Lohengrin, Tannhauzer and Fliagende Hollander. The sides of cups are decorated with beautiful landscape scenes. Cups are gold inside, each cup has a gorgeous gilt flower on the bottom. All saucers are decorated with raised gold swans, lyres and beads.
Cups are labeled underneath with the names of the operas and a brief description of the scenes pictured.
Each piece is marked on the bottom with a lamb mark, Made in Saxony, pattern number 817.
Condition:
Generally in great to excellent condition with imperfections. Eight cups are excellent, four cups have some minor flows. There are no breaks, hairlines or repairs. All gilt is in tact.
- 2 cups have imperfections on the porcelain rim from the manufacturer that looks like uneven rim thickness inside the cup. Please see photo,
- 1 cup has an manufacturing needle hole on a handle, please see the photo.,
- 1 cup has a dark spot on outer rim that looks like deep gilt loss or a tiny bite.
- Saucers have manufacturing porcelain imperfections - 1 saucer has a porcelain dot on a rim, 1 saucer has a tiny whole on the back. All imperfections are pictured, please see phtos.
