About the Item

Barlaston, Staffordshire, c.2002, each with solid green capitals and branches suspended by a seated white figure on a blue plinth decorated with white bas-relief meander, embossed in gold at base “…AFTER THE ORIGINAL 18TH CENTURY MODEL BY HENRY WEBBER…LIMITED EDITION OF 100,” impressed “WEDGWOOD/MADE IN ENGLAND (R),” 14 in. Ex. Dr. Ellis F. Rubin & Suzanne Borow Rubin, Philadelphia; Earl Buckman, Dallas. A similar antique pair from Christie’s, London, is illustrated pp 192 of Robin Reilly’s 1994 “Wedgwood Jasper.” He notes on his attribution to Webber: “these superbly modeled figures… must have been ambition early work for Wedgwood for he (Webber) did not arrive at Etruria until 2 June 1782 and these models are recorded as being fired during 1-8 December.” He later notes the original molds have remained in Wedgwood’s archive.
