A pair of art pottery hand sculpted figures of a heraldic lion and unicorn.

About the Item

These beautiful hand sculpted pottery heraldic figures of a lion and unicorn are most unusual. They are of European manufacture and were most likely made as one-off individual pieces as there is a slight difference in the design of the bases. Each figure has been finely modelled with great detail and finished with an interesting mottled salt glaze in a varying palette of pale olive to brown. These decorative figures are not signed - German circa 1940 - 60 They are in excellent original condition. The Lion and the Unicorn are symbols of the United Kingdom. They are, properly speaking, heraldic supporters appearing in the full royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom.
