About the Item

A stylish art nouveau Tudric pewter jug molded with stylized floral designs by renowned designer Archibald Knox (British, 1864-1933) and dating from around 1905. Many of these pieces were made and retailed through Liberty & Co, London with Knox being their primary designer. He was considered a leading figure of modern design and contributed to the success and recognition achieved by Liberty & Co during this period. The jug is simply formed with a wide round base the body narrowing towards the top with a large formed pouring spout and hinged cover with a raised thumb rest. A small handle to the side is applied with its original woven rattan covering. The body of the jug is decorated in low relied with a stylized scrolling floral and leaf design in typical period style and the jug retains its wonderful original aged patina. The jug is impressed TUDRIC to the base and is numbered 0195 and 3, the latter number perhaps suggesting it was part of a set. In good condition with wear associated with age and use.
